What are you doing on the internet? Sarcasm runs supreme here, it all started with our parents.
Oh, by the way: lots of German/other European folklore has gypsies as mysterious and/or evil characters because of their nomadic nature and how society still finds them mysterious. (also, crosscheck with christian culture as a whole)

My parents always told me that I would be sold to the gypsies if I didn’t behave.
My mom always said she would sell me to the Gypsies too. But I understood more about Gypsies when I was young. When I used the same threat on my children they had no idea what I was talking about.
